Nordaunian AZA kicked off the inaugural KC AZA Cup with a dominating 36-0 victory over Two’s AZA Sunday, Dec. 8, at Satchel Paige Field in Overland Park.
Nordaunian scored on its first possession and didn’t look back, winning via the Mercy Rule just before halftime. Seniors Eli Zeldin, Noah Bergh and Eli Lefberg led the offensive attack for Nordaunian.
For Two’s, quarterback Eli Nathan connected with Jason Persky on several big completions despite not finding the end zone.
Zeldin was named MVP. Zeldin had one passing touchdown, one receiving touchdown and three 2-point conversions. “And a lot of yards,” Zeldin said.
Nordaunian’s football team consisted of: Max Goldstein, Eli Zeldin, Eli Lefberg, Justin Parmet, Sam Nussbaum, Noah Bergh, Michah Reif, Zach Reif, Sam Cohen, Eli Jacobson, Naftali Tilove and Braeden Stone. Two’s team consisted of: Eli Nathan, Jason Persky, Judah Bassin, Sam Hochler, Rex Hebberd, Michael Furey, Micah Kramer, Will Widman and Josh Snitz (special teams coordinator).
Afterwards, the two chapters ran it back in an “unofficial” game – with Bergh and Lefberg joining Two’s squad. Two’s was victorious 20-18. Highlights included a big reception by Hebberd and a “pick-six” interception return for a touchdown by Nathan.
The next event in the KC AZA Cup is Table Tennis, which will take place Sunday, Jan. 19, at 11:15 a.m., at Kansas City Table Tennis. (Bowling, golf, basketball, pickleball and softball to follow.)
Two’s vows to bounce back after Sunday’ defeat.
