Kansas City BBYO attended the Mid-America Region Winter convention Dec. 26-29, in Omaha, Neb. Hosted by Cornhelt BBYO, the theme was, “The Space Between.” There were approximately 145 participants from Kansas City, St. Louis and Omaha.
The weekend was filled with Judaic programming including weekday services, a Yitzhak Rabin educational program, and the “Bob and Guy Show” about Israeli current events. The Anti-Defamation League ran a workshop for participants based upon the short film “The Art of Farewell.” The film is about a Holocaust survivor who has to bury his wife, who was also a survivor.
The workshop focused on the concept of Midrash story telling. Facilitators helped BBYOers look deep into the context of the film to explore a variety of topics related to the Holocaust, characters in the film and point of view.
Throughout the convention, BBYO members also participated in community service projects. BBYO teens are now awaiting Spring Regional Convention, which will be held at Camp Sabra April 6-9.
