Local Alephs knew the pride and satisfaction of the successful host, Sunday night, when a banquet and dance at the Ambassador hotel closed the three-day meet of the western region of the A.Z.A. Approximately 200 guests crowded the banquet tables. More than half of them had taken part in the other social events arranged by the host-chapters, No. 2 and 200 of Kansas City, Mo. Jack Brown, of Kansas City AZA #2, field secretary of A.Z.A., was toastmaster at the banquet. The high points of the meet were the tournaments in basketball, debate and oration and the election of officers for the western region. The local chapter. No. 2, reaped first place in basketball by defeating the Nordaunians (Chapter No. 22 of Kansas City, Kansas) 27 to 18 in the finals. Members of the team were: Robert Chickinsky, Yudell Luke, Isadore Braude, Herman Clurman, Carl Tovsky, Is Danosky and Lester Peltzman. In Oration, Leonard Belove, Chapter 2, ranked second. …

Additional recognition came to W. Zolley Lerner, director of the Resident Theatre, this week when he was placed in charge of the WPA theatre project here. The government lift to unemployed stage people will continue for six months, according to reports. and Mr. ‘Lerner will represent a select troupe in comedies for the balance of that time. The Resident Theatre stepped into the spotlight with its director, the facilities of the Center-sponsored theatre being used by the WPA dramatic company. Harry Schwimmer, president of the theatre board, and Miss Mary McElroy, who has assisted in the promotion of the Resident Theatre this season, aided Mr. Lerner in selecting his group of actors.
