The large throng of Yom Kippur night dancers at the Pla-Mor Monday, waiting to see the 1935 A.Z.A. Sweetheart step through the big ref heart on the orchestra stand, experienced a sensation of optical illusion when two young ladies emerged. Their balloting for the Sweetheart had resulted in a tie, which gave Miss Lee Dorfman and Miss Helen Novorr joint possession of the 1935 Title. Not expecting such a contingency, the A.Z.A. chapter No. 2 , director of the Yom Kippur night dance for The Center, was the embarrassed possessor of only one Sweetheart in. The situation was relieved when Miss Betty Samazin, the A.Z.A. Sweetheart of 1934, supplied her gold-and-pearl emblem for the presentation.
The dance scored success for both The Center and the A.Z.A.’s. The crowd attending toppled past attendance records, netting The Center a neat income to be used in its many projects this year. The Sweetheart contest was a close race for honors. All ten of the young contestants had an enthusiastic following which caused the vote-counters, Milo Minkin, Hy Vile and Jack Brown, to be in deeply for mathematical exactitude.
Prior to the appearance of the Sweethearts on the platform, Abe Supofsky sang the Sweetheart song into the microwave, Leon Sedler, the chairman of the A.Z.A. social committee, acted as master of ceremonies. His committees associates were Mel Gershon, Stanley Yukon, Abbot Yukon and Raymond Baker.
