(From the Oct. 4, 1935 issue of The Kansas City Jewish Chronicle)
Its popularity undimmed, judging by the sale of tickets, the annual Yom Kippur night dance of the Jewish Community Center is being faultlessly groomed for its appearance Monday night at the Pla-Mor. Directed by the A.Z.A. Chapter No. 2, the affair is fiving ballroom devotees all the advantages. There will be no floor specialties to delay the dance sessions and the repertoire of the smart and rhythmic George Morris orchestra will include arrangements prepared especially for the ballroom.
During the intermission, shortly after 10 o’clock, the A.Z.A.s will throw the spotlight on their A.Z.A. Sweetheart contest, which, stated at the dance last year, gave a charming, and novel, touch to the evening. The 10 sweethearts, selected by the A.Z.A.s for the contest, were chosen for their personality, popularity and attractiveness. Using the same trio of qualifications, guests at t the Yom Kippur night dance will vote by ballot for the 1935 A.Z.A. Sweetheart from 10 contestants. They will be introduced with the proper theatrical background of lights and music. Entered in the contest are: Misses Frances Baker, Marion Katz, Sara Mae Geller, Rosalin Salwin, Sarah Gordon, Helen Novorr, Lee Dorfrman, Connie Levitch, Helen Greenberg and Harriet Berkowitz. Last year’s Sweetheart was Miss Betty Samazin. She won the title from the Misses Millie Miller, Rose Katz, Sylvie Strauss, Jean Goldberg, Lottie Mandelbaum, Rose Goldman, Ruth Rose, Frances Parness and Marian Bell.
