With the basketball season ended, two championship teams will be rewarded for their successes by banquets. The AZA squad will be tendered a banquet Sunday evening by the AZA Fraternity for winning the National AZA Championship Tournament held in Omaha, March 21-22. The Goldman squad, champions of the YMHA League, will be rewarded for their stellar playing by their backer, George L. Goldman, by a banquet Tuesday evening at the Y.

The Nordaunian Chapter No. 22 and the Kansas City Chapter No. 2 will celebrate their victories in the Heart of America Tournament on Sunday, April 14 at the Harlem Night Club. The victorious teams will be presented their individual medals.

A new AZA chapter – the B’nai Jehudah Chapter – has been organized, with the membership consisting mostly of boys whose parents are members of Temple B’nai Jehudah, and the Brotherhood of the Temple is accordingly considering the proposal to sponsor this new unit. Harry Deutsch and Joseph Cohen are the advisers. An extensive program has already been formulated and activities will start as soon as the charter is received. Assisting in organization this chapter were Rabbi Samuel S. Mayerberg; Joseph Cohen, past president of District No. 1, and Harry Deutsch, who has taken a deep interest in the work of the AZA. Loeb Granoff is Aleph Godol.

AZA No. 2 met March 26 at the Center and voted Jerry Mokofsky and Alan Wolfe into membership. The chapter will send about 12 members – 7 from the basketball team – to the AZA district convention in St. Louis, April 15-17… A cultural meeting will be held Sunday, April 3. Refreshments will be serviced and movies will be shown.

AZA No. 2 held a hayride March 26 at Benjamin Stables. Afterwards a picnic was held at Swope Park. It was a big success. The group will meet Sunday, April 3, at the Jewish Center.

A high school basketball team from suburban Chicago with an all-Jewish starting five won the Illinois state championship. Glenbrook High School won the state’s Class AA title on Saturday with a 63-51 victory over Carbondale. The Forward reported. Four out of the five starters had celebrated becoming Bar Mitzvah, the team’s captain, Sean Wallis, told the paper. The team is coached by Dave Weber, whose brother, Bruce, is the coach of the University of Illinois team that is vying for an NCAA college basketball title.
