To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the chapter’s 1925 AZA national basketball championship, Two’s AZA journeyed Sunday to The College Basketball Experience in downtown Kansas City, Mo., for a six-fold program.
“Two’s on the Town – Part 2” started out with community service. Alephs distributed Kesher KC Care Bags (provided by the JFS Food Pantry) to the hungry in downtown Kanas City on the way to the CBE.
The CBE houses the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, where Alephs learned about the history of the game. Two’s advisor David Wexler educated the chapter on some of the many Jewish basketball legends, such as Larry Brown, Red Auerbach, Ossie Schectman and Abe Saperstein, as well as Two’s own Phil Copland, Jake Schlozman and Brett Kaplan. On March 22, 1925, Two’s won AZA’s first ever national basketball and debate tournament in Omaha, Neb.
Alephs tested their basketball skills and explored the CBE’s many interactive activities before running through drills led by Aleph Godol Bryan Persky. Two’s then ran a scrimmage in preparation for its upcoming basketball game against Nordauanian AZA #22 on April 6. Sophomore Ben Rosenthal won Knockout twice.
Two’s then took a stroll through the Kansas City Power & Light District, stopping at Chipotle for dinner.
