Mitzvah Garden KC wishes to extend its profound gratitude and appreciation to all those who volunteered at the Garden during the season.
“We had an amazing harvest of 838 pounds of sweet potatoes, which have already been delivered to food pantries in our community,” said Mitzvah Garden KC founder Ken Sonnenschein. “That brought our total harvest to 7,997 pounds of food this season. … Thanks to all of you for making our 15th season of Mitzvah Garden KC growing on the grounds of B’nai Jehudah so awesome.”
In September, Two’s AZA launched its “Stand Up” campaign to end hunger in our local community. Members of the chapter picked peppers, okra and tomatoes, as well as general garden maintenance. Leading the volunteer efforts by Two’s AZA was Aleph Moreh Eli Nathan, who has amassed over 20 hours of volunteer hours at the Garden.
In October, Saadia BBG joined Two’s efforts. The group held a program at the Garden to commemorate the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks, then harvested tomatoes, lettuce and hot peppers. Two’s concluded “Six-Fold Sunday” with a game of basketball and lunch.
A hint of the season yet to come, Mitzvah Garden KC will be planting garlic cloves, which won’t be harvested until June of 2025, Sonnenschein said.
Two’s AZA will be back at Mitzvah Garden KC in 2025; the chapter is volunteering the first Sunday morning of the month from February through May.
